Subtraction of Algebraic Terms

A mathematical operation of subtracting an algebraic term from another algebraic term is called the subtraction of algebraic terms.

The algebraic terms are classified into two types but the mathematical operation of subtraction of algebraic terms is same. However, they is a lot difference between them in the result and it is mainly due to the literal factor. Therefore, you must have knowledge on literal factor to know the mathematical approach of subtracting an algebraic term from another algebraic term.

Observe the following two cases with understandable examples to know how to perform subtraction with algebraic terms.

Subtraction of Like Terms

The like algebraic terms have the same literal factor and it is main reason for the successful subtraction and the subtraction of the like algebraic terms is in the same form of the like algebraic terms.

Subtraction of Unlike Terms

The unlike algebraic terms have different literal factors. Therefore, it is not possible to subtract an algebraic term from its unlike term but the subtraction of them is represented in mathematical form.
