A system of denoting a point in the plane is called the notation of a point.

How to denote a Point

There are numerous points in the plane and all of them are visually denoted by a dot symbol geometrically. It definitely creates confusion while we discuss about a point among them, because all of them look same, but they are located at different positions in the two-dimensional space.

Look at the above visual image to understand the issue. So, a method of representing each point differently is required in mathematics and it is called the notation of a point. It is also called as the representation of a point in geometry.

Each point is named by a letter to overcome the issue. Now, every point has a different name and we can talk about any point on the plane.

Now, they are called point A, point B, Point C, Point D and Point E. In this way, you can denote any point on the plane in geometry.
