The process of calculating the total when a quantity is taken specific number of times, is called multiplication.

Multiplication is an elementary mathematical operation in arithmetic. It is mainly used to find the total quantity whenever a quantity is taken specified number of times.
Example
$2$ apples are taken $3$ times and the total number of apples is $6$. It’s mathematically written as follows.
$3 \times 2 = 6$
In this equation, the symbol $\times$ represents the number of times. It’s also known as multiplication sign.
